Invitation to a press conference - Launch in Lahore of the Observatory Annual Report 2011 on the Protection of Human Rights Defenders
Dear friends,
On the occasion of the publication of the Annual Report 2011 on the situation of human rights defenders by the Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders (the Observatory), the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan is organising, jointly with the Observatory, a press conference in Lahore. This event will provide an opportunity to present the obstacles and acts of harassment suffered by human rights defenders in Pakistan and throughout the world.
The release of the Annual Report is a key momentum of the daily activity of the Observatory. This report tells of the struggle of human rights defenders—civil society activists, journalists, trade unionists, lawyers or simple citizens “indignant” at injustice arbitrariness, or horror—in about 70 countries.
The participants include:
with the symbolic presence of Ales Bialiatski, President of the Centre for Human Rights “Viasna” (Belarus) and FIDH Vice President, who has been arbitrarily detained since August 4, 2011 and is being subjected to judicial harassment.
We hope that you will be able to join us for this important event.
Programme:
Venue: Avari Hotel, Lahore
Time: 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Date: December 8, 2011
Please confirm your participation by phone, fax or email to me (cell: 0322 4278771) or Mr Muhammad Ilyas (cell: 0345 4672527).
Sincerely,
Najam U Din
